Old Greenwich Assistant Principal Accepts Clinton Public Schools Position

Greenwich Public Schools' (GPS) Old Greenwich School Assistant Principal Abby Ostruzka announced that she has accepted a position with the Clinton Public Schools as Assistant Principal for the Lewin G. Joel, Jr. School, effective August 2018. She noted, "It has been an absolute privilege and honor to be an educator in my hometown for the past six years. I consider myself blessed to have this opportunity to work with such talented leaders, teachers, parents and students. The Old Greenwich School community will always hold a special place in my heart. I will miss my colleagues here, but look forward to new challenges in my career."

An educator for thirteen years, Ms. Ostruzka has been with the GPS since 2012. Old Greenwich Principal Jen Bencivengo said, "It has been an absolute pleasure to work with Ms. Ostruzka over the last six years. Her dedication to the students and staff at Old Greenwich School is incomparable. I wish her all the best and look forward to the possibility of some long distance collaboration as she moves to her new community in Clinton."

Bio Brief: Abby Ostruzka

Ms. Ostruzka began teaching in 2005 for the Timothy Dwight Elementary School in New Haven, CT as a special education teacher. She served as a special education teacher for the New Haven Public Schools for seven years before coming to Greenwich in 2012 as Assistant

Principal for Old Greenwich School. While in Greenwich she has worked to foster a strong and supportive relationship between school and families with children newly identified as requiring special education support. Giving parents and teachers the tools to advocate for their differently abled children. She spearheaded the implementation of PBIS and Peaceable Playground to ensure all children feel safe and supported by the school community. As the chair of the Student Assistance Team her dedication to the success of all students was evident in her focused attention to their growth and learning behaviors. She regularly met with teachers to ensure all students grew to their potential and beyond

A Greenwich High School graduate, Ms. Ostruzka received the New Alliance Bank's Teacher Excellence Award in 2008 and was a finalist for New Haven's Teacher of the Year in 2010.

Ms. Ostruzka received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Special Education (2004), and a Masters of Arts in Education (2005) from the University of Connecticut, Storrs, CT. She received a 6th Year Diploma in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut State University, in New Haven, CT in 2009.
