Morning Math

Parent Permission Form

For the fifth year the PTA is proud to offer our math enrichment program open to all students in grades 3-5. In line with Old Greenwich School’s strategic focus this year, the math enrichment program, is designed to provide further challenges in problem solving. This program is not intended for math ALP students.

Grade 3/ Grade 4:

Wednesday mornings, 7:45-8:30AM, weekly, starting on October 16th and running until April 8th, 2020.

Grade 5:

Wednesday mornings, 7:45-8:30AM, weekly, starting on October 16th and running until May 20nd, 2020.

Proposed Content:

Math and logic problems from educational publishers including; Sunshine Math, Greg Tang, Connecticut Math League, Primary Mathematics, and Singapore Math, Exemplars, Engage NY and Common Core work sheets.

Goal:

To create a small voluntary group setting where students are motivated to work together to solve challenging math problems and discuss individual approaches to problem solving.

Scheduled dates may be adjusted to accommodate last minute needs: Updates will be announced in the BTW.

Instructors: Jennifer Webb (3rd ), Amanda Kocot (4th) and Barbara Isaacson (5th)

Key Dates:

October 7th - Morning Enrichment Information Session on Oct. 7th, 8:00-8:30 AM, where you can pick up sample problems and a parent permission form. They will also be available in the blue bin, labeled “Morning Math,” in the front hall.

October 14th – Problem sets and permission forms due. Please hand in the problem sheets and permission forms to the PTA blue bin labeled “Morning Math” in the front hall.

October 16th – Classes start at 7:45AM. Please enter through the side door by 7:45AM. 

Attention Parents: The sample problems are intended to help gauge the level of difficultyPlease have your children work through these problems before committing to the program. Commitment to the program will require additional math problems to be completed at home. If you have any questions regarding your child’s ability to participate, please consult their teacher.

Please note that the assigned homework is a requirement for your student’s elective participation in the program.

To Apply: Please return a parent permission form and a copy of the completed sample problems in the PTA blue bin labeled “Morning Math” in the front hall by Friday, October 14th.

For those who cannot participate, all materials will be available for use at home.
