Principal's Message

Dear Members of the North Mianus School Community,

Welcome to North Mianus School. It is the mission of the Greenwich Public Schools to educate all students to the highest levels of academic achievement, to enable them to reach and expand their potential and to prepare them to become productive, responsible, ethical, creative and compassionate members of society. At North Mianus we are committed to the district norms in our school community: Be Here, Be Safe, Be Honest, Care for Self and Others and Let Go and Move On. These norms are our mantra and permeate every aspect of the school culture. In addition, we have embraced the District’s Strategic Plan by incorporating academic, personal and interpersonal capacities as exemplified by the Vision of the Graduate.

North Mianus reflects the rich fabric of our diversity. Every year, we welcome students from all over the globe. Our international students bring with them a window to the world as we learn that we have more commonalities than differences. This year, we will highlight the importance of tolerance and equity in light of the current tensions throughout the world. This will become an integral part of our teaching and learning as we learn to embrace and celebrate our differences and to show empathy.

We are also a very high achieving school and in 2019 were recognized as the only Greenwich Public School to be awarded the National Blue Ribbon Award by the U.S. Department of Education for high growth and academic achievement, one of four schools in the state to receive this prestigious award. During the past year, we were recognized as a high growth, high achievement school by the State of Connecticut. Our focus has been on personalized learning and student goal setting. We believe timely and specific feedback helps students develop greater reflection and understanding.

Over the last couple of years we have learned a great deal about technology and what works best. Should the need arise, we are ready to move to Google Classroom and See Saw, in the younger grades with a moment’s notice.

We recognize the importance of the partnership between home and school and although you will not physically be allowed in the building right now we are hopeful this might change as the year goes on. We will do all we can to keep you virtually connected throughout the year. We hope that you will choose to be a part of our wonderful PTA as it is an integral part of our school culture and provides many opportunities.
