Superintendent of Schools Ralph Mayo has announced the appointment of Anthony E. Duncan as Assistant Principal for Cos Cob School, effective July 1, 2019. An educator for seventeen years, Mr. Duncan has been a Social Studies teacher at Eastern Middle School (EMS) since 2004. He has also served as Site Supervisor for the GPS Summer School program since 2017 and has held numerous leadership roles at EMS and in the District, including as Learning Facilitator for the Social Studies Department at EMS.
Mr. Duncan said, "It has been a pleasure to be a part of the Eastern Middle School family over the past fifteen years. It is an honor and a privilege to be joining Cos Cob School as Assistant Principal. I am looking forward to getting to know all of the students, staff and families of this special community."
Mr. Mayo noted, "Anthony Duncan is a remarkable advocate for students, an excellent instructor and a man of good character. I can say all these things and more as Mr. Duncan and I were colleagues at Eastern Middle School for fourteen years. Mr. Duncan is a very creative and energetic class room teacher who is in constant communication with the parents of the students in his classroom. Each of these characteristics will help him make a seamless transition to the Assistant Principal role at Cos Cob School. The Cos Cob community expects a great deal from the leadership at their school and I am confident that Mr. Duncan will exceed their expectations."
Administrative candidates are selected after a comprehensive search and appointment process, which includes widespread recruitment efforts, multiple interviews, and extensive reference and background checks.
Bio Brief: Anthony E. Duncan
After two years (2002-2004) as a middle school social studies teacher in the New York City Public Schools as part of their Teaching Fellows Program, Mr. Duncan came to the Greenwich Public Schools in 2004. Since that time he has served as the Boys B Soccer and Baseball Coach and as the lighting director for the school musical and talent show. In addition, he currently serves on the School Improvement Team, works with the District Coaches to plan professional development of EMS teachers, is the Learning Facilitator for the EMS Social Studies Department and is a member of the District Humanities Committee.
Mr. Duncan received a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Boston College, Boston, MA in 2002; a Master of Arts in Teaching from New York University, New York, NY in 2004; and an Intermediate Administrator Certification from Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, CT in 2015.
