Program Overview:

Varsity often plays a 22-25 game season in 3 months consisting of pre-season, FCIAC, and State Tournament. 

Prior to participation you must email the Greenwich High School Health Office to certify that a current athletic physical examination is on file or to send an updated sports medical form.   Please visit the registration page for more information.

You must register on the GHS Athletics website (registration begins June 1).  Sign off on the code of conduct and substance abuse information. Once you have done everything required that will formerly register you for tryouts.

If you do not have a medical clearance from the School Nurse and/or you have not registered on the GHS Athletics website. YOU NEED BOTH!

Time Commitment:

Tryout Information:
ALL players MUST wear a white t-shirt each day. BRING shin-guards, sneakers, cleats, and lots of water.  No shin-guards then you do not play.

Sophomore, Juniors and Seniors:
Tryout #1: Thursday, August 26 from 5:15pm - 7:30pm
Tryout #2: Friday, August 27 from 5:15pm - 7:30pm
First cuts made on Friday August 27 after tryout #2.

Tryout #3: Saturday, August 28 from 7:45am - 10:00am.
Second cuts made on Saturday, August 28 after tryout #3.

First day of full squad practice: Monday, August 30 from 4:15pm - 6:15pm
If any final cuts or placement to other teams are needed it is made after this day.

Freshman Tryout Dates:
Tryout #1: Saturday, August 28 from 7:45am - 10:00am.
Tryout #2: Sunday, August 29 from 7:45am - 10:00am.

First cuts will be made on August 29th after tryout #2, then the coaches will inform you of times for the next day Monday, August 30th  for the final tryout.

Fitness is a key element coming into the season. Please reach out to any of the captains should you need help, advice or guidance.  The captains are Santi Borrego, Jake Hugh-Jones, Andrew Lowitt and Alejandro Rodriguez.

  • Players will complete a 1.5 timed mile run.
  • Players will complete a sprint, agility, and quickness course
  • Players will be assessed on key elements.
    • Technical ability (first touch, passing, dribbling and ability to play under pressure).
    • Tactical ability/cognitive processes (decision-making, how you support your team-mates, movement, angles of support).  Positional ability (how you play a position you choose to be assessed at).
    • Emotional and psychological strength (the reaction when the ball is lost, competitiveness, effort, interaction with other players).

HS Prep Weeks from 5:00pm - 8:00pm
Week 1: July 26th – July 30th
Week 2: August 2nd – August 6th

HS Preseason Weeks from 5:15 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.
Week 1: August 9th – August 12th (Monday to Thursday)
Week 2: August 16th – August 19th (Monday to Thursday)
Week 3: August 22nd – August 25th (Sunday to Wednesday)
All are 4 days long and will prepare players for tryouts.
