Sideline/Spirit Squad’s objective is to partner with student activities and other sports coaches to lead and inspire spirit not only during games, but within the school and greater community. This will largely be accomplished by supporting Cardinal and Greenwich community spirit, a GYCL partnership, and making team appearances. Members chosen for sideline cheer will cheer at Varsity, JV, and Freshmen sporting events.
Competitive Squad’s objective is to train and prepare to be a competitor in cheerleading competitions during the winter season. Participants are chosen from within the Spirit Squad and will be chosen by the coaches. These athletes execute and maintain mastery of advanced cheerleading and tumbling skills. Our program is very competitive and you must tumble or bring an invaluable compilation of skills to be considered for the Competition Squads. Competition teams are made up of two teams Varsity and JV.
Cheerleading has 2 official seasons. During the school year, your commitment will be 5 days per week for Varsity, 5 days per week for JV, and 4 days per week for Freshman. All practices, games, and competitions are mandatory.
During the fall season (Late August - December) we choreograph for our competition routines and cheer at the football games (with the occasional soccer game) in rain, snow or shine! Varsity cheers at ALL home and away football games. JV and Freshman cheer at home games ONLY: JV cheers at JV and Sophomore games and Freshman cheers at Sophomore and Freshman games. Many of these games are scheduled for Saturday mornings.
During the winter season (December - March) we practice for our competition season, compete on most Saturdays, and cheer at basketball games but home games ONLY.
