Julian Curtiss School Building Committee

The Julian Curtiss ES project includes addition(s) and alterations to the existing building that, when completed, will make it an attractive Pre-K through 5th Grade Magnet School choice in the District and a strong neighborhood school in the community. The elementary school will include dual language and full-day pre-kindergarten programs in a building that has been altered with upgrades to accessibility, life safety, security and mechanical elements and systems, bringing them up to expected levels for 21st Century school buildings. The additional full-day pre-kindergarten program and demands on the cafeteria require that the facility be sized (with building additions) to meet those enrollment and educational demands.

The building additions will be designed to foster “21st Century, inquiry based learning” and collaborative problem solving in a safe, comfortable environment. Flexible and adaptable settings, designed for changing educational methodologies will be incorporated.

Both the alternations and the additions will be approached in a manner that are sensitive to and respect the existing building, a vintage late 1940’s brick Georgian style 2-story school building.
