Greenwich Public Schools' (GPS) World Languages Program Coordinator Viviana Conner announced that she has accepted a position with the Hartford Public Schools as the Executive Director for Elementary and Middle School Grades, effective July 13. She noted, "I have valued my time with the Greenwich Public Schools; it has been a fulfilling five years in service of the students and the staff. I will miss my colleagues here, but look forward to new challenges in my career."
Ms. Conner joined the GPS in August 2013 and for the last five years has been responsible for aligning the World Language Curriculum to the Connecticut Common Core Standards for English Language Arts to support speaking and listening skills of a language learner. She has worked to implement a renewed system of assessment for the FLES Program at the elementary school to measure students language acquisition and development. Ms. Conner has also worked closely with the Assistant Superintendent in the development of a personalized approach to professional learning for K-12 World Language Educators.
Assistant Superintendent Irene Parisi said, "Ms. Conner brought a unique perspective to the program coordinator team given her previous building administrator experience. She is a valued member of the CIPL (Curriculum Instruction and Professional Learning) team. She worked tirelessly to ensure all schools and the World Language Program had the resources to support and grow a highly recognized program statewide. It is gratifying to know that Ms. Conner's experiences in Greenwich have prepared her for this new leadership role with Hartford Public Schools. They are truly lucky to have her as a member of their team."

Bio Brief: Viviana Conner
Prior to joining the Greenwich Public Schools in 2013 as the World Languages Program Coordinator, Viviana Conner served as Principal in the Bridgeport Public Schools (2011-2013), and for the CT Technical High Schools (2009-2011). As Principal, Ms. Conner supervised the teaching staffing on delivering effective instruction, facilitated the leadership team, promoted parent, student, and community involvement in the school, and ensured the successful operations of the school.
Ms. Conner began her career in education in 1995 as a K-6 bilingual teacher, and then as a curriculum staff developer for the New Haven Public Schools. In 2000, she moved to a role in administration as the Assistant Principal for CT Technical High Schools, and then returned to the New Haven Public Schools as Assistant Principal (K-8) from 2003-2009.Ms. Conner received a bachelor of arts degree in communications from Central Connecticut State University in 1995; a master of arts degree in elementary education from Southern Connecticut State University in 2000; a 6th year degree from Southern Connecticut State University in education leadership in 2004; and completed the executive leadership program at the University of Connecticut, in 2017. She also completed the Superintendent Leadership Program with the Association of Latinos Administrators Association in 2018.
