Greenwich Public Schools is proud to announce that the International School at Dundee's Library Media Specialist Ms. Jane E. Martellino was named a winner of this year's I Love My Library Award by the American Library Association (ALA) for creating a vibrant culture of literacy. Ms. Martellino was selected from 1,865 nominations from library users across the country.
Ms. Martellino's official nomination stated, "She dug deep during the pandemic time when all students and staff needed her most. She worked tirelessly, reaching as many staff, students and parents that she possibly could to help during these extremely challenging times. Her technical skills, patience in troubleshooting, ability to teach children and adults how to work technology, and nourish the social emotional needs of all people, knack for bringing humor and a smile even in the darkest of times shown through."
Ms. Martellino, and this year's nine other honorees, will each receive a $5,000 cash prize, a $750 donation to their library, and a complimentary registration to ALA's 2021 Virtual Midwinter Meeting & Exhibits. The virtual award ceremony will take place during the ALA Annual Conference & Exhibition on January 23, 2021 at 3:30 p.m. and can be viewed live on their YouTube channel.
Since the award's inception in 2008, library users have shared more than 20,000 nominations detailing how librarians have gone above and beyond to promote literacy, expand access to technology and support diversity and inclusion in their communities.
