Greenwich Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones has appointed Mr. Matthew Hartigan as Interim Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Administrator for Greenwich High School for the 2020-2021 school year, effective immediately. Mr. Hartigan replaces Ms. Carleen Wood who recently retired from the District. In this role at GHS, Mr. Hartigan will be responsible for the PPT/IEP process, supporting students within the Academic Lab classes, RTI/SAT process to ensure consistent application of interventions and data collection, social and emotional learning, supporting at risk students, and collaboration with GHS Leadership, including the Principal, Assistant Deans, Director of Student Life and Director of Guidance, on various programs and student activities. Most recently, Mr. Hartigan served as the Interim Special Education Program Administrator for the District and a Special Education/Resource Room Teacher at Greenwich High School.
"Matthew will be a great addition to our PPS Administrative Team serving the needs of our students at Greenwich High School. He enters this role with extensive experience in both educational administration as well as direct classroom experience serving in numerous roles working directly with students in Special Education," said Dr. Jones.
Mr. Hartigan has spent his entire teaching and administrative career serving the students and community of Greenwich Public Schools. Most recently, Mr. Hartigan served as the Interim Special Education Program Administrator serving the needs of students across our entire District, and as a Special Education and Resource Room Teacher at Greenwich High School. Prior to that administrative role while he continued his teaching role at Greenwich High School, Mr. Hartigan was an Administrator Substitute at Riverside School for the 2019-2020 school year, supporting their school's leadership with teacher evaluations and walkthroughs and supporting school staff with student interventions and behavior monitoring. Prior to teaching at GHS, Mr. Hartigan taught at Western Middle School for four years as a Special Education Teacher, and began his teaching career in 2008 at the Arch Alternative High School (now named Windrose).
Mr. Hartigan shared, "I am excited to begin my position as the Interim Pupil Personnel Services Administrator for Greenwich High School. I look forward to working in my new role with students, staff, and families in supporting the growth of our students in achieving their goals. As a member of the Greenwich Public Schools Special Education department for nearly 15 years, I have had the opportunity to work in various settings through the district, and have had the ability to work closely with PPS Administrators, the GHS Administrative Team, and students, staff and families throughout the district. I plan to bring this experience and my overall enthusiasm to the position, and I look forward to providing leadership and support to our students, staff, and families during these challenging times."
Mr. Hartigan holds both a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Master's in Education with a concentration in Social Studies from St. Lawrence University; a Sixth Year Degree and Cross Certification in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University; and an Educational Leadership and Administration Certification from the University of Bridgeport.
