Building Hearts

Building Minds

The Glenville School community is being given the opportunity to join its hands, its hearts, and its minds to help make the world a little brighter.  From April 4th – April 15th, we will be participating in a reading challenge that will not only benefit our students, but also help the dream of safe, decent housing come true for local families.  With students, parents and staff all playing important roles, the Glenville family can make a real difference.

Students:         Your challenge is to build your love of reading during the project.  By enjoying books and filling out a red brick for each book finished you will help your schoolmates reach the goal of 2011 books.  (Just cut the attached bricks apart and fill out one at a time.)  Progress will be tracked with a giant “House of Reading” that will be built as the bricks come rolling in.

Teachers:         Your challenge is to join the team of builders that will be volunteering at a Habitat for Humanity housing site on a Saturday after spring break.  For each 300 books read by the student body, this team will spend one hour hammering, sawing, and painting.  If the school goal of 2011 books is achieved, the team will donate an entire day of sweat and hard work.

Parents:       Your challenge is to support and encourage your children in their mission.  Set aside family reading time, share your love of books, and sign a red brick for each book your child reads.  (Older students can fill out a brick for each chapter they read.)  Parents also have the opportunity to make a “Golden Brick” donation (payable to Habitat for Humanity of Greater Bridgeport) to sponsor a teacher volunteer and add a golden brick to our House of Reading.
