Computer at Eastern Middle School

How do I have access to computers at EMS?

Eastern Middle School's computer labs, Room 216 and Room 217, are both located within the Media Center. In addition to these two labs, there is a full lab in the Technology Education classroom, mobile carts of laptops, computers in each classroom throughout the school building, and new this year, a cart of iPads.

When are the labs open?

The computer labs in the Media Center are open before and after school for academic use.  Please note that no CD-ROMS or games are allowed in the computer labs or the Media Center. Classes are scheduled with media staff.  Individual students must have a pass to come to the Media Center during the school day or after 2:45 PM. Students must also sign in when using the computer labs before or after school. The computer labs are not open during SSR.

How can I get to my documents on the computers?

Type in several letters of your last name. Double click on your name. Enter your eight-digit student number. Once you're logged in, either double click on the application you wish to use, or click on the documents folder which holds your student work , and click on the file which you wish to open. When you are finished, always go to File and Quit (command Q) often enough to return to the EMS Welcome screen.

What are the guidelines for using the Internet and Network at Eastern Middle School?

Students and parents should review the district's Acceptable Use Policy Agreementbefore students access the network. Please be sure to read the document carefully as it reviews important information about Internet safety, network etiquette and web publishing guidelines.  This is an opt-out document, which means that the district assumes that all students and parents agree to the terms of use unless they state specifically in writing that they do not wish to have access to the network.

How do I use the copier and printer?

There is no charge for black and white printing or photocopying that is required by teachers. Before printing, you must use spell check, print preview, and go to the end of the document to ensure that there are no extra pages. Then you must ask your teacher or media staff member for permission to print, and make sure you know which printer you are using.   All printing requires the permission of a teacher or staff member!
