Offer vs. Serve

Do you ever wonder why the cafeteria staff may tell your child that they need one more item? Read about OVS?

Offer versus Serve (OVS) is a system designed to decrease food waste and give students greater flexibility in choosing what they eat for school lunch.

Concepts:

  • Students can make food selections, and will more likely eat what they select.
  • Students choose at least 3 componenets including a 1/2 cup of fruit or vegetable.  Combination foods count as more than 1 food item. (Hamburger on a Bun - 2 Items)
  • Parents and other adults teach kids -- by example -- to make healthful choices.
  • We encourage students to select all foods offered
