Driving Directions

Below are directions to various high school sailing venues.  Contact Coach Olmstead with corrections or additions at Evan_Olmstead@greenwich.k12.ct.us.

Directions to the Greenwich High School Varsity Sailing Site at Grass Island

From I-95 southbound - Travel on I-95 south to Connecticut Exit #3.  At the end of the ramp take a right onto Arch Street.  Take the first left (before going under the railroad tracks) onto Horseneck Road.  Take the first left onto Shore Road.  Take the first left onto Grass Island.  Travel straight (the water is on your left).  The GHS fleet is located in the parking lot just past the guardhouse.  To go to Greenwich Boat and Yacht Club (the sailing team's meeting site) turn right at the guardhouse.  Travel through the parking lot, onto the GBYC drive.

From I-95 northbound - Travel on I-95 North to Connecticut exit #3.  At the end of the ramp take a left onto Arch Street (this will take you under the highway).  Take the first left (before going under the railroad tracks) onto Horseneck Road.  Take the first left onto Shore Road.  Take the first left onto Grass Island.  Travel straight (the water is on your left).  The GHS fleet is located in the parking lot just past the guardhouse.  To to to Greenwich Boat and Yacht Club (the sailing team's meeting site) turn right at the guardhouse.  Travel through the parking lot, on the the GBYC drive.


Cedar Point Yacht Club - Venue for Staples HS, Greens Farms Academy
Take I-95 North to exit 16 in East Norwalk. Turn RIGHT off the exit ramp. At the third traffic light turn LEFT onto Winfield Avenue (immediately after passing under the railroad tracks). Go approximately 1.1 miles and turn RIGHT onto Duck Pond Road.  Go 0.3 miles and turn LEFT onto Harbor Road.  Follow Harbor Road 0.7 miles to the end which is a tiny (very tiny) one lane bridge onto an island.* Go over the bridge to the stop sign, turn RIGHT on Sea Spray Road and then take the first LEFT turn onto Crossway.  This will take you to the  Club. The speed limit on the island is 15 MPH and should be strictly observed. Park in either the first parking lot nearest the docks or the last lot at the club house.

*If you are trailering a boat or are in a heavy vehicle then do not use the bridge.  Instead, go to the end of Canal Road.  Turn RIGHT to continue on Canal Road.  Go LEFT, then LEFT, then fist RIGHT.  Continue in this direction until you arrive at CPYC.

Take I-95 North to exit 19.  At the end of the ramp take a right-hand turn onto Center Street.  Pass through an intersection where you will bear slightly to the left to stay on Center Street.  At the end of Center Street take a left onto Harbor Street.  Pequot Yacht Club is immediately on the right.


 Boston College HS - 150 Morrissey Boulevard
Boston College High School is located on Boston's Columbia Point, near the UMASS Boston campus and directly across from the Boston Globe.
FROM THE NORTH: Take Route I-93 (Southeast Expressway) south to Boston.  Take exit 15 off the I-93 expressway.  Take a left at the bottom of the ramp and proceed past the T station (JFK/UMASS).  Take the first right at the rotary onto Morrissey Boulevard (stay in the right lane).  At the bottom of the hill, bear right onto UMass service road.  Proceed through the set of lights in front of the Boston Globe Building (BC High is opposite at this point).
TO GET TO THE SAILING SITE AND PARK ($6 or more): Go to the second set of lights (the entrance to the UMass/JFK Library complex), take a left into UMASS and Bear to the right, keeping the water on your right.  You can park in the second lot on the left (don't go into any garages!).  Then walk down to the docks.  No bathrooms at the docks so you have to go into UMASS.

Hotchkiss School
Take I-684 north to the end, where it becomes Route 22 north in Brewster, New York. Follow Route 22 to Amenia, New York. At the traffic light in Amenia, turn right onto Route 343. Follow Route 343 to Sharon, Connecticut. In Sharon, at the four-way stop facing a stone clock tower, turn left onto Route 41. Follow to the intersection with Route 112 with a four-way stop (about 5 miles). Turn left onto Route 112. The school entrance is 100 yards on the right.

Ida Lewis Yacht Club - St. George's venue
Take I-95 North to Rhode Island exit 5A (route 102 South).  Travel on 102 for approximately 8.5 miles.  Turn Right onto route 4 South towards Narragansett.  Go 3.6 miles.  Continue on Tower Hill Road for 0.7 miles.  Continue towards route 138 East/Bridges/Jamestown/Newport.  Ramp becomes route 138 east.  Go 9 miles.  Bear right towards route 238 South/Scenic Newport.  Turn right onto route 138A/238.  Continue on Farewell street.  Continue on Thames street.  At shell Station turn right onto Wellington Street.  Follow this road to the Ida Lewis Yacht Club (the one on the rock).

Saint Thomas More School
Take I-95 North to exit 70 (Old Lyme - Rt 156).  Go to the end of the ramp onto Route 156 West.  Follow route 156 approximately 8 miles to the junction of Route 82.  Go right onto route 82 East.  Follow 82 approximately 8 miles into Montville (You will pass route 354 and a dairy farm on your left just before you enter into Montville).   About 1/2 a mile after Montville, take a left onto Doyle Road (directly across the street from Our Lady of the Lakes Church on the right).  Follow Doyle Road about 3/4 of a mile and take a left onto Cottage Road.  About 1/4 mile down on the left will be the entrance to Saint Thomas More School.

Sound School
Take 95 North to the Rt.10 exit in New Haven.  Go right at the end of the exit. procede to the traffic light and go right. Follow the road under the bridge and bear left.  At the stop sign go right. At the next stop sign go left. The sailing site is the third tan building on the right. There is a sailboat on poppits and a small shed. Park on the street and come on in.

Wadawanuck Yacht Club - Williams School venue
Take 95 to Exit #91. If traveling north on 95, turn right (95 south, turn left) at the bottom of the ramp onto Rt. 234 West. Proceed 1/4 mile and turn left onto North Main Street. Continue on N. Main straight through traffic light at Rt. 1 to stop sign. Turn left onto Trumbull Ave. and go to the stop sign. Turn right onto Alpha Ave. Cross over viaduct/bridge and take hard right onto Water St. The first left after Dodson’s boatyard is the club driveway. The team rigs in the area before the tennis courts.

Yale Corinthian Yacht Club (YCYC) - Branford HS venue; 179 Clark Avenue, Branford, CT 06405
Take I-95 North to Exit 51, Frontage Rd. At the second traffic light take a right onto CT 142 (Hemingway Ave). At the third traffic light (at which you will see a Shell station) take a left onto Short Beach Road. At the first stop sign turn right on to Clark Avenue. YCYC is on the left, just past the beach.
