APPLICATIONS TO OTHER SCHOOLS 2012-2013
Applications to other schools, whether they are applications due family relocation or students applying to private schools, have been increasing in recent years. The Guidance Department thought it would be helpful to families if we outlined a few guidelines that will facilitate your requests for transcripts and recommendations.
Students Applying to Independent and Private Schools in the Greenwich area
The Policy and Procedure Guidelines of the Greenwich Public Schools state that reference information, such as letters of recommendation, will not be included with the applicant’s records and transcripts. Our staff, including school counselors, are not permitted to write letters of recommendation on behalf of students applying to independent and private schools in Greenwich.
Forms for the Principal or School Counselor and Requests for School Records
These should be given to your child’s counselor or to our Guidance secretary, Mrs. Patty Kaufmann. Stamped envelopes addressed with at least 2 stamps to the appropriate schools should be provided. Please allow two (2) weeks for processing and factor that into your application deadline. If the applications are due before the end of the first semester, we will automatically send the second marking period report card (usually available by the end of January) to all schools on your application list.
Teacher Recommendation Forms (for schools outside of Greenwich)
Parents requesting teacher recommendations should contact the teacher directly (usually mathematics and English.) Stamped envelopes addressed with at least 2 stamps to the appropriate schools should be provided to each teacher. Please allow two weeks for these forms to be completed and factor that into your application deadline.
Please contact your child’s counselor if you have any questions or concerns.
