Assessment Policy
During the school year 2005 - 2006, ISD staff held a series of meetings to discuss assessment. As a result, we wrote an assessment Essential Agreement, the concensus between all teachers on what, how, and why we assess student learning. This document was used as the foundation for our assessment policy. The ISD Assessment Policy was written by a group of teachers trained in assessment by the IBO. It is the roadmap to our continued efforts to improve our assessment practices to better inform our teaching. We have continued our focus on assessment by sending teachers to specialized training. We have read books on assessment research and best practices and shared these in staff meetings. The knowledge brought back from teachers that have gone to workshops, as well as best practices the IBPYP trainers in our staff gather when authorizing/evaluating schools and teaching workshops, is always shared with the rest of the staff during our staff meetings, often in the form of inquiring, collaborative activities. We have had and will continue to have IBO consultants to our school to assist us with our ongoing journey towards authentic assessments, including portfolios and student-led conferences. The ISD Assessment Policy can also be found in the Family Directory.
Language Policy
The language policy is a document created by collaboration between ESL, World Languages and Literacy at ISD. It reflects district policies on all three areas, plus our "mother tongue" policy. The committee that gathered and wrote this document included teachers from all three areas, the district's Director of Staff Development and the district's Coordinator for Language Arts, as well as ISD administrators. The ISD Language Policy can also be found in the Family Directory.
