Science Education Programs at CCS
Some highlights of our many grade specific programs include:
Kindergarten
High Touch/High Tech: The five kindergarten sections will be receiving a visit at CCS from the wonderful High Touch High Tech team for a presentation on Meteorology (weather, liquids, solids, and wind) in March. http://www.ScienceMadeFunCT.net/
Critter Caravan: In May the children will have a special visit from Catherine and her wonderful "Critter Caravan" to learn about zoology. Kathryn will bring her traveling animals and teach the children about characteristics and facts on each critter. www.cittercaravan.com
1st Grade
Stamford Museum and Nature Center Field Trip: First graders will have a visit from Stamford Nature Center to learn about "What's Up with Plants". http://www.stamfordmuseum.org/
In the Spring look out for the a field trip to Stamford Nature Center to get up close and personal with "Life Cycles". The children will learn about adaptations in nature: how plants and animals adapt according tot he environment in which they live. They will experience metamorphosis up close and personal. http://www.stamfordmuseum.org/
2nd Grade
Greenwich Audubon Nature Center: The Audubon Nature Center will be greeting Second graders in April, where they will be learning all about Botany (plants). No better place than the Audubon to explore the great outdoors. www.audubon.org
High Touch/High Tech: HT/HT's Give Me Dirt will be the highlight of the Geology unit for 2nd grade. This in school visit will feature all about the Earth and how it works. http://www.ScienceMadeFunCT.net/
3rd Grade
Bruce Museum: The Bruce Museum mobile unit presented a unit on geology, rocks, and mierals. The wonderful program drives up right to the school and introduced the children to science with a hands on approach. brucemuseum.org/site/education_detail/bruce_mobile_outreach
High Touch High Tech: HT/HT came to the school to present all of about Chemistry and in April the Biome will be featured at another wonderful High Touch High Tech presentation where the students will learn about adaptattions in plant and animal life. www.sciencemadefunct.net
4th Grade
Greenwich Audubon Nature Center: The Fourth Grade will take its annual trip to the Audubon in the Fall to learn about Land & Water and how they work together. www.audubon.org
5th Grade
Hayden Planetarium: The highlight of the Fifth Grade Science Program will be a trip to the Museum of Natural History in New York City to visit the wondrous Hayden Planetarium to learn all about the world of astronomy. www.haydenplanetarium.org
High Touch/High Tech: Other Fifth Grade presentations are HT/HT's visit to demonstrate the "Power of Light". http://www.ScienceMadeFunCT.net/
Whole School Experiences:
The CCS PTA also facilitates whole school science experiences throughout the year. Some key programs include Science Month in January, Dennis Reglings’s Great Assemblies: “The Magic of Science”, and a full school field trip to one of the many amazing science museums in the area.
