About GHS

Greenwich High School is a collaborative community of learners dedicated to academic excellence, personal integrity, and interpersonal responsibility. One of the largest high schools in Connecticut, GHS is a four-year high school serving approximately 2700 students of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The school's philosophy of "freedom with responsibility" encourages students to make decisions affecting both their study and leisure time. The Cardinal Rules promote a climate of mutual respect and concern for others. The Headmaster and the Assistant Headmaster have overall responsibility for the operation of the school. Entering students are randomly assigned to one of five Houses - Bella, Cantor, Clark, Folsom, and Sheldon. Each house has its own House Administrator, guidance counselors, and other support services for students. The Houses adjoin a one-acre enclosed area called the Student Center which serves as a cafeteria, meeting hall, and place to relax between classes. Classes meet on a rotating eight-block schedule. A large Media Center supports all learning programs of the school and helps students become lifelong learners by providing a wide variety of information, resources, and technology. All students at GHS are issued a Chromebook computer which they are required to bring to every class. GHS offers over 300 courses and a wide variety of co-curricular activities. Student activities include student government as well as academic, international, service, athletics, and special interest clubs. The school fields 42 varsity teams which have won numerous county, state, and regional championships. Students and teachers consistently win recognition and high honors for academic achievement, as well as excellence in the arts, theater, music, business, and more. The Greenwich community strongly supports its public schools. The Greenwich High School PTA serves the school through volunteering, fundraising and assisting with communication
