Residency Verification

RESIDENCY VERIFICATION - Effective July 1, 2016 (Updated 7/1/16)

WHY
Connecticut General Statue and Board of Education Policy requires students who are enrolled in the Greenwich Public Schools to be residents of the Town of Greenwich. Prior to registering a child in a Greenwich Public School, parents are required to provide proof of residency in the Town of Greenwich.

WHERE:
Parents/Guardians
will verify residency at each of their child(ren)'s enrolled school(s).
Sponsors will verify residency by appointment at the Greenwich Board of Education located at 290 Greenwich Avenue, Greenwich, CT 06830. Please contact the Residency Office at 203-625-7400 to make your Sponsorship/LLC/Special Circumstance appointment.

WHO:
Required for ALL incoming Kindergarten students, any students new to the Greenwich Public Schools, and ALL incoming and rising ninth grade students. Parents who move during the school year must resubmit proof of residency. Residency verification for Sponsorship and LLC tenants is by appointment only at the Residency Office, 290 Greenwich Ave. Greenwich, Ct. Please contact the Residency Office at 203-625-7400 to make your appointment.

WHEN:
Residency verification hours for parents/guardians are conducted during your child(ren)’s school's normal operation hours and at the Board of Education.

Property Ownership

Residency/Registration Checklist Complete items 1 through 4

1. Notarized Affidavit of Parent/Guardianship

2. For Homeowners: a property tax bill, mortgage statement, or ownership deed
For Lease or Rental Properties: current lease/rental agreement signed by the landlord with landlord's contact phone number. If you have no formal lease, complete the Notarized Property Owner/Landlord Affidavit

3. Two Current Utility Bills: cable television, water, electric, gas or oil; no telephone. All documents must be in the same name and to the same address. If this documentation is not available and the parent is a resident of the Town of Greenwich, the Residency Office will assist the parent/guardian in establishing residency

4. Photo Identification: driver’s license, passport, or Connecticut issued identification card

Leasing Property (Renting)

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

  • 1. If I live in another town /city, can my child(ren) attend Greenwich Schools?

Answer: Only children who reside in Greenwich can attend Greenwich Schools

  • 2. Does Greenwich accept Tuition Students?

Answer: Yes, but only for full time employees of the Town of Greenwich, if there is available room at the requested school.

  • 3. Questions on Immigration or Citizenship status, parent, or student?

Answer: Immigration or Citizenship status is not relevant to establishing residency in the Town of Greenwich

  • 4. Can a Homeless child be enrolled into Greenwich Schools?

Answer: Yes, The McKinney-Vento Act defines the term “homeless children” to include; “children who are sharing the housing of others persons due to loss of housing, are living in motels, hotels, or lacking of alternative adequate accommodations; are living in emergency or transitional shelters; are abandoned in hospitals; or are awaiting foster care placement, "as well as children of migratory agricultural workers
